The organizational scheme for my notebooks is based on the different schools I will be student teaching in along with a notebook that I can use for other subjects. Additionally, I have several notebooks shared with me with numerous amounts of teaching resources. Content ranges from my unit plan, notes from my restoration ecology class to the information shared with me. Everything I have is school related and topics include genetic lesson plans, notes from research articles, pictures and different formats for lesson plans. I have a total of nine notebooks with over 200 notes.
A planning strategy I learned through the use of evernote is how to set up a unit plan that can link to one main note. When you click on the mini links it brings you straight to the notes with the associated lesson plans. This is useful for the classroom because you can easily access your lessons from the unit plan overview page.
However, evernote was not always easy to use. As I used evernote I did not understand that you could delete attached articles in the notebook itself. Instead, I deleted the entire notebook at first. This became frustrating until I found out how to properly do it. I think a clear tutorial or direct instruction on how to use it would be useful. Outside of those few frustrations, evernote seemed to work well.
When it comes to creating things I find that I am a little more old fashioned with creating lessons via pen and paper. What keeps me away from technology is its ability to fail when you need it the most as well as the frustrations that build quickly once this occurs. This has always made me skeptical to use technology. However, its usefulness is endless. I would like to use evernote more than I did to help organize useful notes or teaching strategies I learn about. I would also like to build my notes based on things I learn from other teachers or internet resources I find. Essentially, I would like to use it as a folkloric approach to aid with my teaching.
